The North Texas Veterans Experience Action Center along with VA, state, and community partners will host a virtual event on Tuesday, July 18th – 20th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT for North Texas Veterans, caregivers, Service members, survivors, and family members to help you get the services and benefits you’ve earned!
Are you looking to get a status on your claim or sign up for VA health care? Whatever it is, VA and partners are here to help.
Simply schedule an appointment to speak directly with VA and get dedicated one-on-one service. At the time of your appointment, a Veterans Service Officer will call you—via telephone—to kick off your appointment. We look forward to connecting with you!
Veterans who don’t have access to a telephone to receive their VEAC appointment call can visit VA sites where phones will be provided. Visit the registration page for more information.
Registration runs through Sunday, July 16th. Appointment availability is limited and please note this event will serve residents of North Texas counties only—all out-of-area registrations will be canceled. Happy New Year to all Post 178 Legionnaires and Auxiliary Members! I’m looking forward to serving with you all in 2023 and helping to grow our Post and Auxiliary into the finest in all of Texas.
A big thank you to our volunteers who braved the cold and either unloaded and set up boxes of wreaths or coordinated activities on Ceremony Day. Their time and energy helped dress up our national cemetery and honor brothers and sisters who have gone on before us. So, thank you to our Post Commander, John Stammreich; Vice Commander-Programs, Terry Gilbert; and Color/Honor Guard Captain, Bill Drake.
If you didn’t have the chance to participate in this beautiful and kindhearted annual event, you have another opportunity to help out this year, as we need volunteers to retrieve the wreaths for disposal. Last year it took two and half hours to clear 39,000 wreaths. This year there will be more, so plan for half a day of service. Remember, the more volunteers we have, the faster it’ll go. Wreath removal will begin at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14th. If you have an old broomstick (without the broom) or something similar to bring along with you and use it to scoop up several wreaths at once; makes the job much easier. Also, bring gloves as the wreaths can be prickly, water to stay hydrated, and ask a friend to come along and join in on the fun!
For those interested in carpooling down to the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, please meet at the northeast corner of Walmart’s parking lot, located off FM 423 at Stonebriar Pkwy. Five high school students from the Frisco area have registered to compete for college scholarships at the American Legion post 178 Oratorical Scholarship Contest. The competition will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 9 A.M. at the Grove at Frisco Commons, 8300 McKinney Road, Frisco, TX 75034.
Orators are required to write and memorize an original speech on some aspect of the Constitution, with emphasis on a citizen’s duties and obligations to our government. Additionally, the contest requires the orator to deliver extemporaneous remarks regarding one of four amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The specific amendment will be drawn on the day of the competition.
Up to 4 winners will be selected to proceed to the district contest in Royse City on January 7, 2022. They will compete with winners from other posts in the 4th District. The contest is open to the public and admission free.

On Friday, Dec 16, 2022, we will be carpooling from Frisco to Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery (2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy Dallas, TX 75211) to distribute wreaths the day before Wreaths Across America. If you would like to help with this, we will meet at the Walmart Supercenter located at 423 and Stonebrook, 355 Stonebrook Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034, at 7:00 and we will be leaving at 7:30 to put in a few hours and return that afternoon. Please bring work gloves and dress according to the weather conditions. (Approximately 4 hours)
Then on Saturday Dec 17, 2022, Wreaths Across America will be at Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud. (Approximately 3 hours)
If you would like to attend, we will be carpooling from Frisco to Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery (2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy Dallas, TX 75211). We will meet at the Walmart Supercenter located at 423 and Stonebrook, 355 Stonebrook Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034, departing at 7:30, on Saturday, Dec 17,2022. Please wear your American Legion cap.
Then in Jan 2023 we will return to Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery help remove the wreaths from the gravesites and placing them on trucks and trailers and returning them to large dumpsters for future disposal. Please bring work gloves and a broom stick (to pick up the wreaths) and dress according to the weather conditions. (Approximately 3 hours)

I want to provide an update on the wreath count for the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Currently, 13,965 wreaths (27% coverage) have been donated to our giving cemetery. The deadline to order wreaths is 11/28/2022. You have 20 days to sponsor a veteran’s wreaths. We encourage you to go to your group’s page and make your donation. If you do not have a group that you support, feel free to use www.honordfw.com or text “Wreath1” to 20222. For every 2 wreaths texted or donated from this site, or texted extra wreath will be delivered to our cemetery.
Our ceremony will be on December 17, 2022 at 11:00AM. Everyone is welcome to participate in the laying of the wreaths. Please know that this event receives a few thousand volunteers and parking is limited. You should plan to arrive no later than 10:00AM. I highly suggest carpooling if you can. The wreath laying will begin at noon.
If you have donated a wreath but are unable to attend, please email the name, section, and site number of your veteran to Mary_Bush@friscotaxservices.com. The Civil Air Patrol will lay a wreath on the requested site.
