KIA 10 FEB 2009 in Salerno, Afghanistan

CPL Peter Courcy was born on July 25, 1986 in Fort Hood, Texas. He enlisted in the Army on July 16, 2006. Upon completion of his basic training, advanced individual training and airborne training, CPL Courcy was assigned to Special Warfare Training Group (SWTG) from November 21, 2006 to March 15, 2007. He arrived at Delta Company, 2-506th Infantry Battalion on March 27, 2007.

On March 17, 2008, CPL Courcy deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom IX where he served with Dog 46 (4/D/2-506 IN BN) and was attached to Task Force Glory. CPL Courcy was killed in action on February 10, 2009 as his vehicle was attacked by a suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) killing him, a fellow soldier, and wounding one other.

He was an integral part of the team, dedicated to mission accomplishment and constantly displayed unwavering courage and commitment. His awards include the following: the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO (ISAF) Medal, Air Assault Badge, Airborne Badge, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge.

He posthumously received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. CPL Courcy had a distinguished military career and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and fellow Soldiers.

CPL Courcy is survived by his wife, Mara, his son, Anthony and his mother and stepfather Christopher and Mary Bush.
