Post 178 implemented a new organizational structure and elected 12 Post Executive Committee officers at its general membership meeting on June 21, 2021. All newly elected officers will serve from July 2021 to June 2022. Former Commander Fred Rogers will fill the Immediate Past Commander position.

Mr. Gene Toohey, past 1st Division Commander, conducted the election. Elected were  Rick Redden- Commander, Ed Reed-Vice Commander-Public Relations, Thor Anderson-Vice Commander-Post Activities, Terry Gilbert-Vice Commander-Programs, Jose Torres-Adjutant, Terry Meyering-Finance Officer, Bill McGowan-Judge Advocate, Paul Huff-Service Officer, James Schaub-Chaplain, Gemar Johnston-Sergeant at Arms, Ted Ruybal-Member at Large, and Larry Wilhelm-Member at Large.

4th District Commander Jason Castleberry installed the new officers. Commander Castleberry commented, “The leadership of Post 178 will continue its fine tradition of serving veterans, youth, and the Frisco and surrounding communities as it has done since it was chartered in 2014.”

The election of our 2021-2022 Post Executive Committee officers will be held at our Membership Meeting on June 21, 2021, at 6:30 P.M. at  Venture X – Frisco, 6735 Salt Cedar Way, 3rd floor.

This will be a “hybrid” meeting.  You will be able to attend and vote in-person or virtually by Zoom. Zoom connection details will be sent before the meeting.

Two distinguished guests will attend our meeting:  Mr. Gene Toohey, former 1st Division Commander, will conduct our election and 4th District Commander Jason Castleberry will install the new officers.

Join the City of Frisco, the Frisco Garden Club, Frisco VFW Post 8273, and American Legion Post 178 for a Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 31 at Frisco Commons. The event will feature a traditional flag and wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic music, and local scouts.

American Legion Initiates Member Drive

The American Legion Peter J Courcy Post 178 is conducting its 2021 membership drive.  The post is one of the largest in Texas and represents one of the state’s fastest growing communities.  Although the post currently has more than 585 members, it annually seeks to signup new and retain current veteran members to help support their numerous programs and activities in the Frisco community.

The American Legion is a patriotic veteran’s organization and is the nation’s largest veteran’s service organization.  Each of its more than 13,000 posts worldwide is committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members, veterans, and their families.

National Wreaths Across America Tradition Continues

American Legion Post 178 recently participated in the 2020 Wreaths Across America national program at the DFW National Cemetery which involved more than 36,700 wreaths.  In addition to post members helping to unload and distribute wreaths, it worked closely to assist Audrey Henvey, a Frisco Enterprise reporter, to author an article entitled “National Tradition Continues.”  To access click https://bit.ly/34TA3KC.
