National Day of the Deployed annually honors the United States military personnel deployed around the globe.
On October 26th, we honor all the brave military personnel who have been deployed, are sacrificing, or have sacrificed their lives to defend our country. It also acknowledges their families who are separated from them during deployment and the sacrifices they make in order for their family members to serve our country.
A Veterans Day Ceremony to celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice will be held on November 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Frisco Veterans Memorial in Frisco Commons Park, 8000 McKinney Road, Frisco, TX 75033. The American Legion Post 178 and Auxiliary Unit 178 are coordinating the ceremony.
The ceremony will include special guests from the City of Frisco and speakers Raymond Kemp with 33 years’ service, Fleet Master Chief US Naval Force Europe, US Naval Forces Africa and Darrell Utt a Retired Green Beret US Army Special Forces
The public and all veterans are invited to attend. Seating will be available.
Stephanie Manchin and Jen DeMarco introduced the Blue Star Mothers of America, Yellow Rose TX20 chapter, to the American Legion Post 178 Membership. Stephanie Manchin is the President of the Frisco chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America. The Frisco Blue Star Mothers of America is a new organization that was chartered on May 5, 2024 and their service area includes Frisco, west to Denton, Highland Point, Salina, south to Lewisville, and everything in between. They meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM at the new Frisco Public Library.
The Blue Star Mothers of America organization has approximately 200 chapters and 6,000 members nationwide. Projects include decorating and sending care boxes to deployed troops, participating in Wreaths Across America, donating time and goods to the VA hospital, offering blue to gold presentations at services of fallen heroes, folding pocket flags, writing notes of encouragement, sewing prayer pocket quilts, and making no-sew blankets.
At the September Membership meeting of American Legion post 178, Ed Reed was honored and recognized for his encouragement, leadership, and service to the many programs run by the post. Since joining Post 178 in 2019, Ed has been involved in numerous programs and activities, including the Oratorical and Boys State programs, co-editing the Post’s newsletter, and serving on the Information Development Committee. Ed was the second Vice Commander of Public Relations and joined the Paul J. Courcy Post 178 Foundation as Secretary. Ed chaired the NNDCC, now known as the Navy Junior ROTC Program. Most recently, Ed served as the 2023-2024 Post Commander. Ed currently serves on the Post Executive Committee as Immediate Past Commander
This was the first monthly fitness walk. We had a fun time walking and talking then after our walk we stayed for about 30 minutes just to talk.
We walk on the first Saturday of each month at 8 am meeting at Frisco Commons Park parking lot and hope to see you at our next fitness walk on October 5.
