At its annual June officer elections, Terry Meyering, the post’s only finance officer since it was chartered in 2014, decided to not seek re-election. Jeff Magargle was elected the new Post 178 Finance Officer.

Terry was first elected in 2014 when the post was chartered and has been its only finance officer for the past ten years. During his tenure as a key member of the Post Executive Committee, he made significant contributions to the post’s successes.

Terry originally joined the American Legion in 1994 at Post 264 in Lake Forest, Il.  He joined because he wanted to serve a worthy cause. He transferred to Post 178 in December 2013.

Terry is a U.S. Army veteran. He joined in November 1960 in Los Angeles. He was a communications specialist in the 261st Signal Corps in Fort Bliss, TX. He was honorably discharged in November 1963 in El Paso, Texas.

After serving his country, Terry began his civilian career with Westinghouse Broadcasting and Cable.  He retired in 1990 as Vice President-Operations, Chicago. During his retirement, he continued to share his financial expertise and leadership skills.  He is a former member of the Board of Directors and treasurer for Meals on Wheels of Lee County, FL., a former chair of the finance committee for the Reflection Lakes Homeowners Association, and for 12 years also voluntarily served social service agencies in Lee County FL developing and supporting computerized programs to manage their operations and finances which included Community Cooperative Ministries, Inc., Amigos En Christo, Inc., Grace Community Center, Inc., and Dr. Piper Community Center.
