December 18, 2021 – National Wreaths Across America Day
Despite cold and a persistent wind, thousands of volunteers lined up at DFW National Cemetery to place wreaths on National Wreaths Across America Day

December 2, 2021 – Bonham Veterans Home Donation
Frisco residents, Scott and Deborah Dillingham, baked 400 cookies for residents and staff members. More than 30 boxes of items were delivered which included 10 quilts and 16 fidget quilts for memory care patients that were made by the “Quilting Angels” group from Frisco Lakes. Donations amounting to more than $5,600 were delivered on December 2 by veterans John Allen, Tim Schmidt, and Marty Martel.
Post 178 and Auxiliary-Unit 178 always look forward to making Christmas a little brighter for these veterans.

August 17, 2021 – Frisco City Council Honors 2021 American Legion Post 178 Boys Statesmen
The 2021 Post 178 Texas Boy Statesmen were honored at the Frisco City Council meeting on August 17, 2021. Larry Wilhelm, the Program Committee Chairman, presented the seventeen statesmen to Mayor Jeff Chaney and council members. Mayor Cheney proclaimed the day as “Frisco Boys Statesmen Day”. He further recognized the vital role high school principals, counselors, and teachers play in the nomination process of prospective delegates.
The group of seventeen incoming seniors who attended the 2021 Texas Boys State virtual program from June 27 through July 2, 2021, received a proclamation. Thomas Davies, who attended a week-long program in Washington, D.C., received an individual proclamation for being selected a Boys Nation Senator.

July 19, 2021 – Community Honors Former American Legion Post 178 Commander
Fred Rogers, former commander of American Legion Post 178, was honored by the Frisco City Council, Frisco ISD, and representatives of local state and federal government officials during a recent post membership meeting. Commander Rogers has been an American Legion member for the past 14 years. In 2014, he was also a founding charter member of Post 178.
July 17, 2021 – Post Pancake Breakfast
Our first “after COVID lockdown” social event for members and their family was held at Frisco Commons Park on July 17th
July 4, 2021 – Frisco Freedom Fest
The Post 178 Color Guard had the honor of presenting the Nation’s Colors during opening ceremonies of the ‘Party in the Plaza’ festivities at the Frisco Freedom Fest on July 4 in the City Hall Plaza. In addition to live entertainment, The Taste of Frisco featured more than 20 local restaurants.
Post 178 also manned a recruiting booth in the ‘Patriotic Vender Village’ which included more than 20 local entities. Besides discussing membership opportunities, miniature American flags were freely given to village attendees. Scouts from BSA Troop 178 also attended and provide assistance.
Festivities concluded with one of the largest fireworks shows in North Texas.
June 21, 2001 – Election of Post Executive Committee Officers
Post 178 implemented a new organizational structure and elected 12 Post Executive Committee officers at its general membership meeting on June 21, 2021. All newly elected officers will serve from July 2021 to June 2022. Former Commander Fred Rogers will fill the Immediate Past Commander position.

The annual Memorial Day Observance was held at the Veterans Memorial in Frisco Commons Park.

May 22, 2021 – Lone Star Corvette Classic Event (Vets with Vettes)
On Saturday, May 22 the American Legion Post 178 Color Guard presented the Nation’s Colors at the 31st Annual Lone Star Corvette Classic at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Feb – Mar, 2021 – Texas Boys State Interview and Selection
Post 178 Boys State Committee selected 20 young men to attend the virtual Texas Boys State from Sunday, June 27, 2021 through Friday, July 2, 2021. So far, we have sent 121 young men to Texas Boys State and with another 20 young men in 2021; we will have sponsored a total of 141 Texas Boys State Delegates.
Mar 16, 2021 – Frisco City Council proclaims March 29 Vietnam War Veteran’s Day
American Legion Post 178 veterans received a standing ovation at the March 16, 2021 Frisco City Council Meeting as Mayor Jeff Chaney cited a proclamation declaring March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day in Frisco, Texas.
2021 – Oratorical Competition
Harbani Kohli, a junior at Reedy High School, was presented a Certificate of Recognition by City of Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney at the March 16, 2021 City Council Meeting for her outstanding performance for winning the American Legion Post 178 Oratorical Scholarship Speech Contest and the 4th District contest earlier this year. For winning the two contests, she received $750 scholarships.
