National Wreaths Across America is an event in December each year dedicated to remembering the sacrifices veterans have made in wars since the American Revolution.Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. Post 178 WAA coordinates the recruiting of volunteers to assist in distributing and laying wreaths on each grave at D/FW National Cemetery.

Dec 12, 2020 – Post Oratorical Contest

Four high school students from the Frisco area were named winners and received $250 college scholarships at the American Legion Post 178 Oratorical Scholarship Contest. The competition was held in the Council Chambers at Frisco’s George A. Purefoy Municipal Center on Saturday, December 12. The four orators will now compete at the district contest in Royse City on January 2, 2021 against other contest winners from the 4th District. The four winners in alphabetical order were Anmol Dubey, a freshman at Liberty High School, Emma A. Ko, a junior at Club 19:14 Home School, Harbani K. Kohli, a junior at Memorial High School, and Jedaiah D. Ward, a freshman at Club 19:14 Home School.

Dec 9, 2020 – Auxiliary Christmas Donations to Bonham

Yes, the ladies in the picture from left to right are Ladies Auxiliary members, Vickie Allen, Margarethe Rayburn and Glena Rogers. The ALA Ex. Board each adopted one of the ladies at Bonham (nine) and put together these Christmas bags with sweat pants, long shirts, pajamas, lotion, lip balm, barettes, candy, salty snacks, 2021 calendar, knubby socks, snow glows, scarves and door decoration, etc.

Post 178 had 14 young men participate in the 2020 Texas Boys State. They are as follows: Frisco High School (Zachary Walsh and Connor Dejecacion), Heritage High School (Praval Kollipara), Independence High School (Clyde Bond III and Caleb Hoang), Legacy Christian Academy (Mason Ansley), Liberty High School (Jack Milleson), Lone Star High School (Zakariya Syed and Scott Trouy), Reedy High School (Kevin Thomas and Sean Varghese), Wakeland High School (James Cheshire and Matthew Robinson), and Leadership Prep School (Ajitesh Narayan).

Apr 25, 2020 – Face Mask Give-a-Way

Frisco American Legion distributes over 700 masks to Frisco area residents, physical therapy clinic patients, and two Non-Profits

This past week the Frisco American Legion, Peter J, Courcy, Post 178 partnered with local businesses Classique Jewelers, Big Frog Custom T-Shirts and More, and EventHaus and distributed over 700 reusable cloth masks to local residents, local physical therapy clinics (to distribute to their patients in need), and two local Non-Profits, Frisco Family Services, and Frisco Fastpacs. The Legion 2nd Vice Commander, Rob Altman II, stated, “This particular service project was quite fun —we are truly blessed to live in a community, like Frisco, where the passion for service to others is so strong.”

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) this spring, the 2020 Texas Boys State was completed virtually with WebEX telecommunication. Post 178 had 14 young men participate in the 2020 Texas Boys State. They are as follows: Frisco High School (Zachary Walsh and Connor Dejecacion), Heritage High School (Praval Kollipara), Independence High School (Clyde Bond III and Caleb Hoang), Legacy Christian Academy (Mason Ansley), Liberty High School (Jack Milleson), Lone Star High School (Zakariya Syed and Scott Trouy), Reedy High School (Kevin Thomas and Sean Varghese), Wakeland High School (James Cheshire and Matthew Robinson), and Leadership Prep School (Ajitesh Narayan). With 14 young men attending Texas Boys State in 2020, Post 178 has sent a total of 121 young men to Texas Boys State in the seven years Post 178 has been chartered. Several of our Boy State Delegates have attended military academies and some are attending military universities.
