December 10, 2022 – Oratorical Scholarship Contest

Four high school students from the Frisco area were named winners and received $250 college scholarships at the American Legion Post 178 Oratorical Scholarship Contest. The competition was held at The Grove at Frisco Commons on Saturday, December 10. The four orators will now compete at the district contest in Royse City on January 7, 2023, with other post winners from the 4th District.

Each contestant delivered a prepared oration as well as an oration on a randomly assigned constitutional topic. The four winners were: Cobbs Homeschool, Caedmon McCoy-McCoy Homeschool, Kaaviya Shenbaharaman- Plano West Senior High School PISD, Pranav A Kalkunte-Independence High School FISD

August 16, 2022 – Frisco City Council Honors 2022 American Legion Post 178 Boys Statesmen

The 2022 Post 178 Texas Boy Statesmen were honored at the Frisco City Council meeting on August 16, 2022. Larry Wilhelm, the Program Committee Chairman, presented the statesmen to Mayor Jeff Chaney and council members. The group of incoming seniors who attended the 2022 Texas Boys State program from June 12 through June 17, 2022.

Mayor Cheney proclaimed the day as “Frisco Boys Statesmen Day”. He further recognized the vital role high school principals, counselors, and teachers play in the nomination process of prospective delegates.

July 4, 2022 – Frisco Freedom Fest

The American Legion Post 178 Color Guard and cadets from the Lebanon Trail Navy National Defense Cadet Corps presented the Nation’s Colors and service flags at the Frisco Freedom Fest.

June 11, 2022 – Vets with Vetts

Post 178 and Lebanon Trail Navy Cadet Corp. Team Up To Present the Nation’s Colors at the Lone Star Corvette Classic at the Texas Motor Speedway.

May 27, 2022 – National Poppy Day

Post 178 members successfully distributed poppies on National Poppy Day.

May 23, 2022 – Boys State Orientation

An orientation was held for Post 178 Texas Boys State delegates and their parents last evening in the Frisco ISD board room. Larry Wilhelm, the Texas Boys State Committee Chairman, scheduled the event and led the presentation.

Speakers included Jacob Pavlasek, a graduating senior from Reedy High School who attended Texas Boys State in 2021.  Charles Ansley, a native Texan from Amarillo and retired senior manager in the computer financial industry who attended Texas Boys State in 1952. Both speakers shared their unique perspectives, experiences, and advice. Detailed information requirements and due dates were also shared with the parents and a helpful question and answer session followed.

Chairman Wilhelm thanked the delegates and their parents for attending and said, “We are delighted that this year’s session in Austin will be face-to-face, because for the last two years the sessions were virtual because of COVID.”

February 12, 2022 – Division Oratorical Contest

Emma Koe, Post 178 and 4th District Oratorical winner won the Division contest and will now advance to the State finals in San Antonio on February 21st. We are very proud of her and this outstanding achievement. Emma is homeschooled and a Senior.
