Post Committees

Our post’s success depends entirely on the participation and volunteerism of our members. Post 178 encourages you to be as involved as you want to be. We invite you to review our list of volunteer opportunities on our post’s committees.

Administration – Jose Torres, Sr.
Maintains a complete record of all meeting proceedings, issues membership cards, handles transfer certificates, issues monthly and annual membership reports, and handles all post correspondence.

Audit – Fred Rogers
Oversees the post’s financial reporting and disclosure process; provides an objective and unbiased view of the post’s financial practices.

Benevolence – Vacant
Provides financial assistance, within the post’s means, to veterans and their families.

Boys State – Larry Wilhelm
Highly selective and participatory event for high school juniors that exposes students to the rights and privileges, duties, and responsibilities of a United States citizen.

Budget & Finance – Terry Meyering
Provides guidance to the post in generating annual income and setting spending limits that will allow the post to achieve its mission of providing service to veterans, youth, and children.

Frisco Veterans Advisory Council – Thor Anderson
The Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee is an organization that supports and celebrates local veterans.​

Fundraising – Vacant​
Builds relationships for gathering voluntary financial contributions to meet the post’s special and ongoing monetary needs for promoting its programs.

Honor & Remember – Bill Drake
Participates in activities that recognize veterans’ service and community contributions.

Color/Honor Guard – Bill Drake
Presents the Colors at community events and post functions in Frisco and surrounding area; performs funeral/memorial services for area veterans and members of Post 178 upon request.

Law & Order – Tracy Griffard
Identifies, selects, and honors community law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders.

Legion Riders – Vacant
Consists of members who take to their motorcycles and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various post and local programs. The Riders participate in many annual community events.

Legislative and Voter Registration – Vacant
Monitors national, state, and local legislation and encourages members to contact their congressional representatives; plans ‘Get Out the Vote’ registration events.

Membership – Vacant
Obtains new members and retains existing members to meet annual membership goals so that the post has appropriate resources to meet its mission.

Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) Liaison Committee – Ted Ruybal

The Navy National Defense Cadet Corps is a forerunner program for the Navy JROTC. The purpose of the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps Liaison Committee is to establish, maintain, and grow a strong, supportive partnership with the Frisco ISD Lebanon Trail Navy National Defense Cadet Corps.

Newsletter – David Grandfield
A quarterly newsletter, titled “Spreading the Word”, that consists of a compilation of features and photos that illustrates the activities and accomplishments of the post.

Oratorical – Terry Gilbert
An academic speaking challenge for high school students, 9th — 12th grade, to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the U. S. Constitution.

Member & Post Activities – Joanne Schumm
Plans post activities and events that promote camaraderie and enjoyment of post members.

Public Relations/Press Releases – John Brady
Promotes public support of the post’s mission through multiple local media contacts and by local publicity and promotion of the post’s programs, social activities, and community events.

School Awards – Vacant
Develops six core qualities students and awards those selected by teachers and counselors.

Scouts BSA – David Grandfield
Develops young people in achieving full physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual potential as individuals and as responsible citizens and members of the community.

Service Flag Detail – Eric Bonar
The Service Flag Detail works in conjunction with the Color Guard. When the Color Guard presents the Colors at an event, the Service Flag Detail carries each of the military branch’s flags.

Training – Ted Ruybal
Imparts information to improve member performance and help attain a required level of knowledge regarding American Legion’s procedures, practices, and processes.

Visitation and Outreach – Vacant
Builds relationships, schedules activities that assist and support veterans and their families.

Website – Eric Bonar
Ensures that web server, hardware, and software are operating correctly; designs the post web site, creates content, revises web pages, and reports view/traffic data.

Wreaths Across America – Joanne Schumm
Assists with distributing, laying, and retrieving wreaths at the D/FW National Cemetery. We help the Chris and Mary Bush Fundraising group raise money to purchase, lay and retrieve wreaths.
