SUMMARY:Veterans Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Open to the public and all veterans\, seating will be available. \nA Veterans Day Ceremony to celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism\, love of country\, and willingness to serve and sacrifice will be held on Saturday\,  November 8\, 2025\, at 11 a.m. at the Frisco Veterans Memorial in Frisco Commons Park\, 8000 McKinney Road\, Frisco\, TX 75033. The American Legion Post 178 and Auxiliary Unit 178 are coordinating the ceremony. Music provided by the Frisco Community Band\, National Anthem performed by Leslie Rainey. \nThe ceremony will include special guests from the City of Frisco and keynote speaker John Bagwell\, a decorated veteran with a Bronze Star with a “V” device and the Purple Heart. His experience has recently been chronicled in a documentary\, Vietnam: The War That Changed America\, released on Apple TV+. \nJohn Bagwell is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the US Army as a DJ / announcer for the American Forces Radio Station. He was wounded during the Tet Offensive during the siege of Hue\, South Vietnam\, where he received the Bronze Star with a “V” device and the Purple Heart. \nHe was part of the only American Forces Radio or Television Station to be taken by the enemy during any war. Of the staff\, five were taken prisoner\, three were killed\, and John was able to escape. \nOver the next two days\, John was shot at over a dozen times – Six by the North Vietnamese and six by the Americans who did not know he was behind enemy lines. \nHe has found humor in the face of tragedy; his story will inspire you to face another day. \nHe has been active in the Veteran groups and is a past commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 542 in Dallas\, and is on the board for Collin County Vietnam Veterans of\nAmerica Chapter 1122. \nHe lives in the Dallas area\, is married to Rosemary Bagwell\, and has two sons\, Jonathan and Ben.

SUMMARY:Frisco Purple Heart Monument Dedication (09/20/25)
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE!! The Frisco Purple Heart Monument team invites you to join us in honoring America’s heroes at the dedication of the new Purple Heart Monument at the Frisco Veterans Memorial on Saturday\, September 20\, 2025 @ 9:00 AM. More than a medal\, the Purple Heart is a sacred emblem of sacrifice\, awarded to those combat veterans killed or wounded in service to our nation. It bears witness to courage unshaken and the profound price of preserving our freedom. We extend our sincere gratitude for your financial contribution\, which played an important role in enabling our Purple Heart monument project to be fully funded through donations. \nPlease wear your American Legion Cap. \nFrisco Purple Heart Monument Dedication\nFrisco Veterans Memorial – Frisco Commons Park\n8000 McKinney Rd\, Frisco\, TX 75033\nSaturday\, September 20\, 2025 @ 9:00 – 10:30 AM \n \nDedication Event Speaker – Captain Florent A. “Flo” Groberg\, U.S. Army (Retired)\nRecipient of the Medal of Honor\, Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster\, and the Purple Heart \n \nWe are confident that the final three-piece\, seven-foot-tall design will be well received\, reflecting the honor\, dignity\, and reverence this monument deserves. Guided by meaningful input from local Frisco veterans\, including Purple Heart recipients\, it will stand as a lasting tribute of remembrance and gratitude for their noble service. One noteworthy aspect of the monument is the inclusion of two Honor Guard sentinel figures—intended to inspire a deeper sense of solemnity and respect. \n \nThis addition stands as a fitting tribute\, joining our Frisco Veterans Memorial site that already honors service and sacrifice through its many cherished elements: the original 1948 Frisco Garden Club Veterans Memorial urn\, a solemn Battlefield Cross\, plaques recounting 17 wars and conflicts since Frisco’s founding\, the Veterans Walk of Honor\, the Frisco KIA Wall of Honor\, the POW/MIA flag and plaque\, the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument\, and the inspiring World War II Flyboy statue. Together\, they form a place of honor\, remembrance\, gratitude\, and enduring respect.

SUMMARY:Wreath Retirement Day - Date Changed to January 18
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThis event is an opportunity to come together again and honor our veterans by retiring the remembrance wreaths. It’s a family-friendly activity\, so feel free to bring your loved ones\, including children. The work is light\, and many hands make it even more enjoyable! \nWhat to Bring:\n\n\nWork Gloves – Essential for handling the wreaths.\nBroomsticks (without the broom) – Surprisingly effective for gathering multiple wreaths at a time.\nGarden Wagons (if you have one) – Great for transporting wreaths to the roadside in each section.\nTrucks and Trailers – While box trucks will be onsite\, additional vehicles are always appreciated.\n\n\nProcedure:\n\n\nStart in any section\, ideally where you laid wreaths.\nUse broomsticks to gather wreaths and stack them near the road.\nTrucks will transport the wreaths to the dumpster south of the Administration building in the new pit area. Volunteers will be available to guide you.\nPlease park on the right side of the road to ensure enough space for trucks to pass.\n\n\n      **ONE-WAY traffic will be observed throughout the cemetery for safety and efficiency**\nAdditional Opportunities: \nRESTOCK THE LOCAL FOOD BANK!\n\nThis holiday season has been challenging for many North Texans. On January 11th\, let’s continue spreading kindness by bringing non-perishable food items. A collection truck will be stationed at the main entrance to receive your donations as you come in Saturday.

SUMMARY:The Wall That Heals
DESCRIPTION:Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall and Mobile Education Center spreads healing legacy of The Wall and educates about the impact of the Vietnam War. \nThe Wall That Heals\, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center\, is coming to Frisco\, Texas on MAY 2–5\, 2024 at Warren Sports Complex (7599 Eldorado Pkwy\, Frisco\, TX 75034) and will be open 24 hours a day and free to the public. The Wall That Heals honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed forces in the Vietnam War\, and it bears the names of the 58\,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. \n     The Wall That Heals travels in a 53-foot trailer\, unfolding into a mobile Education Center when parked\, recounting the Vietnam War’s story. The three-quarter scale replica\, 375 feet long and 7.5 feet high\, lets visitors experience The Wall’s towering presence\, with the opportunity to make name rubbings of service members. \nThe mobile Education Center exhibit features several components: digital photo displays showcasing “Hometown Heroes” – service members listed on The Wall with their hometown from Frisco and its neighboring communities; digital photo displays honoring local Vietnam veterans through VVMF’s In Memory program; video displays providing insights into the history and significance of The Wall; educational exhibits depicting items typically left at The Wall in D.C.; a replica of the In Memory plaque; a map of Vietnam; and a chronological overview of the Vietnam War. These exhibits collectively narrate the story of the Vietnam War\, The Wall\, and the era surrounding the conflict. They aim to offer a historical and cultural framework to understand the American experiences in Vietnam. \nThe 2024 national The Wall That Heals tour is generously sponsored by USAA. Through a partnership with the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA)\, the trucking industry\, and Blue Beacon\, the exhibit is able to travel across the country. \nSince its debut in 1996\, the exhibit has been displayed in over 700 U.S. communities. The Wall That Heals is run by VVMF\, the nonprofit behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. It is the only traveling exhibit linked to The Wall\, featuring its largest replica. Two VVMF staff members lead local volunteers\, interact with visitors and students\, and ensure the respectful atmosphere of The Wall. For more\, visit: www.thewallthatheals.org. \nFrisco VFW Post 8273 coordinated arrangements for The Wall That Heals to visit Frisco. \nAbout VVMF \nThe Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) in Washington D.C. in 1982. It continues to honor and pay tribute to our nation’s Vietnam veterans and families Their mission is to honor and preserve the legacy of service in America\, educating all generations about the Vietnam War’s impact and era through various programs\, ceremonies\, and educational materials.
